  • The WG discussed the 5-year review of STM2.1 “Garments – Resistive Characterization” document and decided that some changes are needed to the appendix to correct incorrect information. A drawing and recording chart for ESD coveralls will be added. These are mentioned in the body of the document but there is no chart for listing test points and recording them. Changes will be sent to WG before the end of July for review.

It was also noted that additional items such as bouffants, face coverings, hats, etc., will be considered for addition to the STM or to TR later.

  • WG discussed the 5-year review of STM2.1 “Garments – Resistive Characterization” document.  Discussion focused on whether any changes need to be made, such as adding full overall suit drawing and test locations in an appendix.

It was noted also that the WG needs to review the garments section of the newly release of TR20.20.

  • The WG reviewed comments on the Garment section of the ESD TR2020 to determine whether changes to this or other documents are required. The WG also discussed the 5-year review of ANSI/ESD STM2.1 “Garments – Resistive Characterization” document.

  • The WG reviewed the garment section of ESD TR2020. Much work needs to be completed, which will be done in virtual meetings to complete the review. The WG also discussed the 5-year review of ANSI/ESD STM2.1 “Garments – Resistive Characterization”.

  • WG started the 5-year review of ANSI/ESD STM2.1 “Garments – Resistive Characterization”. Several concerns were raised and discussed, such as:

    • The use of “periodic verification” and “compliance verification” in a qualification document.
    • Photos of test set-ups show test leads contacting the garments.
    • Use of garments with and without cuffs.
    • Document requires significant revisions.

Completed review and update of the Garments section in ESD TR20.20.

  • The WG reviewed STM2.1 for the 5-year review. Possible revisions include:

    • There was a discussion on voltage leakage of cables.
    • Developed measurement system verification procedure.
    • Removed sections from ANNEX that had misinformation.
    • Removed procedures that were compliance verification tests.
    • Identifying required measurements for each garment level.
  • Our next meeting will be face-to-face on Friday, March 15 from 10:00 am – noon in Denton, TX.

We will be working on the STM2.1 5 year review and going over the recommended changes.

I look forward to seeing you in Texas!

  • Summary of meeting activities:

The committee added a bunny suit diagram and test points to an annex in ANSI/ESD STM2.1. Discussion was held on adding aprons, arm sleeves, hats, and belts to the document. Also, there was a discussion on core conductor testing activity. It is difficult to identify meaningful testing at this time so work will continue between meeting series.

  • Summary of meeting activities:

The committee added a bunny suit diagram and test points to an annex in ANSI/ESD STM2.1. Discussion was held on adding aprons, arm sleeves, hats, and belts to the document. Also, there was a discussion on core conductor testing activity.

  • Summary of meeting activities:

The committee discussed possible updates to ANSI/ESD STM2.1 prior to 5-year review. Updates include adding photos/images for full bunny suits, hoodies, and booties. The current status of a project to evaluate buried core conductor garments was also presented.

  • Summary of meeting activities:

The committee discussed possible updates to ANSI/ESD STM2.1 prior to 5-year review. Updates include adding photos/images for full bunny suits, hoodies, and booties. The current status of a project to evaluate buried core conductor garments was also presented.

  • Summary of meeting activities:

A presentation was given on results of testing buried conductor garments. Further samples will be obtained for more testing at additional labs. Future topics were all discussed including a potential technical report on other types of garments (shirts, pants, protective sleeves) and items made from garment materials (work station covers, cart covers, microscope covers).

  • Summary of meeting activities:

The committee discussed the reaffirmation of ANSI/ESD STM2.1 during the five-year review. A presentation was given on work within IEC TC101 on garments with buried conductors. Further discussions will be held at the September face-to-face meeting.

  • Summary of meeting activities:

The committee discussed the five-year review of ANSI/ESD STM2.1 and decided there were no technical changes required. The document was submitted to the consensus body for reaffirmation. The group discussed potential topics for future work including buried conductor garments, cleanroom bunny suits (head cover and feet cover), and wearable technologies.

  • Summary of meeting activities:

The committee discussed the five-year review of ANSI/ESD STM2.1.  No major changes were suggested at this time but the committee will continue to review the document at the April meeting series. There was a discussion on adding buried conductor testing after the five-year review is complete.  Sample materials and smocks for testing are being sought.

  • Summary of meeting activities:

Series A presentation was given on the activities of IEC Sub-Group (SG) 10 for Smart Wearable Devices. The group discussed a possible focus on garments manufactured from buried core conductor fabric; it was decided at this time there is not enough interest from the industry for the committee to pursue the activity. The working group (WG) will go dormant for the remainder of 2016 and will reconvene in 2017 to being the five-year review of ANSI/ESD STM2.1.

  • Summary of meeting activities:

The committee reviewed the status of ESD testing methods for buried conductor/conductive core fabrics for ESD protective garments on a global basis. There is concern regarding instances of companies and utilities that refer to ANSI/ESD STD2.1 in relationship to testing for their garments manufactured with buried conductor fibers which it is not meant to be applied to testing of these types of garments. The committee will begin exploring the development of a technical report on the scope of garments types that ANSI/ESD STD2.1 is applicable. The committee will continue discussions at the April meeting series.
