ROME, NY – EOS/ESD Association, Inc. (ESDA) recently completed a four-part series of electrostatic discharge presentations for over 40 students at Vernon Verona Sherill Central School District Elementary Schools’ students this spring.

The STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Math) Series started with an introductory presentation of electrostatic discharge through normal human activity and the negative effects it has on the production of semiconductors and microchips as well as other micro devices. Each hands-on presentation became more advanced, while keeping the content engaging and interactive for students, as they were able to see and utilize various measurement tools and learn about ways to protect vulnerable items from electrostatic discharge during handling.

Lisa Pimpinella, Executive Director for the ESDA said, “Engaging students early in utilizing various technologies captures their interest in a way that minimizes any reluctance or fear of choosing technology for a career as they get older. Our region needs more people who have technology-based skills, and this need is going to increase exponentially by the time current elementary students reach graduation. We want to show children and adults that they can enter technology-based companies with basic training courses.”

EOS/ESD Association Inc. offers various levels of training and certification for people who are interested in working for technology-related companies throughout the world as well as the Central New York area. Lisa Pimpinella said, “Companies are investing in Central New York and are looking to the Mohawk Valley Region for employment talent. We offer a broad range of education in the area of electrostatic discharge and have the resources to educate children from as young as eight years old, to adults who are making career advancements and changes, in addition to seasoned engineers who want to sharpen their skills to align with the latest standards and certifications.”

EOS/ESD Association, Inc. recently provided training and assessment to 35 senior students at Oneida-Herkimer-Madison County BOCES through an online Operator Training Course. At the end of the course, each student received a certificate of completion from BOCES once they passed the training assessment.

EOS/ESD Association, Inc. is a 501’C’3 non-profit organization dedicated to advancing the theory and practice of electrostatic discharge (ESD) avoidance. Founded in Rome, NY in 1982, the association has grown to more than 15,000 members and volunteers, and 55+ participating countries, including the U.S. and Canada.

Initially focusing on ESD on electronic components, EOS/ESD Association Inc. expanded its reach to include areas such as textiles, plastics, web processing, cleanrooms, and graphic arts. Due to a continually changing environment, the association is chartered to expand ESD awareness through standards, development, education programs, local chapters, publications, tutorials, certifications, and symposia. It is the only organization accredited by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) to write and produce standards on electrostatics.
