ROME, NY USA – EOS/ESD Association, Inc. (ESDA) announced the release of the EOS/ESD Association, Inc. Technology Roadmap. The goal of the document is to present the thresholds as ‘roadmaps’ of estimated threshold changes in electrostatic discharge (ESD) and the potential impact on ESD control practices through 2030. In an effort to keep abreast of the evolving electronics industry, the document is updated annually by EOS/ESD Association, Inc.

The first section of the EOS/ESD Association, Inc. Roadmap provides estimates of future electrostatic discharge (ESD) thresholds of semiconductor devices and the potential impact on ESD Control practices. These levels are strongly technology and design-dependent and need to be periodically revised in the context of advances in the electronics industry. The second section contains information on device testing trends and characterization from the ESDA and ESDA/Joint Electron Device Engineering Council (JEDEC) teams working on these methods. The roadmap also includes an outlook on important trends in the semiconductor industry looking towards 2030 and closes with a section on electronic design (EDA), and important contributor to reliable and robust ESD and latch-up design.

Executive Director Lisa Pimpinella of EOS/ESD Association, Inc. said, “EOS/ESD Association, Inc. is the independent association with the technical expertise to provide the roadmap for research and development (R&D) as well as education in electrostatic discharge. As an association that combines representatives from all of the major semiconductor companies in the world, we are highlighting the criticality of research, development, education, and funding to ensure electrostatic discharge is recognized as the major thrust behind reliability.”

The European Union (EU) commission and the United States (US) government are stimulating home-grown semiconductor manufacturing capabilities and capacities, which is also impacting industry growth locally, in municipalities, such as Rome, NY where the EOS/ESD Association’s headquarters resides as well as other in other regions in New York State and the U.S. For this global, national, and regional effort, it is critical to the electronics industry and other industries that utilize and rely on electronic parts, that this roadmap supports their work effected by electrostatic discharge.

EOS/ESD Association, Inc., founded and located in Rome, NY, in 1982, focuses on providing electrostatic discharge awareness, education, controls, and prevention.
