Threshold November-December 2020

Volume 36, No. 6 November/December 2020 THRESHOLD TM This year EOS/ESD Symposium faced a huge challenge. Due to the dramatic situation caused by the worldwide pandemic, the classical event that all our faithful attendees have known for more than 40 years was not possible. The Steering Team and EOS/ESD Association, Inc. worked hard to define a brand new way to hold this great event. Even during these difficult times, all of the ESD volunteers made a remarkable effort to prepare for the 42nd Symposium, offering a dense program packed with tutorials, exhibits, workshops, technical sessions, and invited talks. Moreover, this year a new special session dedicated to the relationships and interactions between ESD and EMC was also organized in close collaboration with EMC Society. The Symposium was offered for the first time ever in a hybrid format, combining presentations given in person by those who were able to travel to the Peppermill Resort and Casino, in Reno (NV), together with speakers connected remotely and presenting their talks via online streaming. In this way, a unique chance was offered to the attendees to enjoy this great Symposium, not only being present at the event, but also viewing the technical presentations and interacting with ESD experts from the comfort of their homes and offices. Many people from across the world registered for this new and innovative event, which has contributed to opening a new path for live happenings and which will be surely considered one of the milestones in the future post-Covid world. We look forward to seeing you at the next EOS/ESD Symposium at the Westin La Paloma, Tucson, AZ, USA, in 2021. Lorenzo Cerati, Symposium General Chair 2020
