ESD Association Presents Outstanding Contributions Award to Ron Gibson (November 2000)
Ronald J. Gibson, corporate ESD control manager for Celestica, Inc., North York, Ontario, Canada, chair of the ESD Association's standards committee, has received the Association's annual Outstanding Contributions Award.
Selected by the Association's board of directors, the award recognizes distinguished contributions, service, leadership, and achievement in the field of EOS/ESD.
Gibson is most frequently noted for his work in the Association's standards development activities, serving as standards committee chair. He also is the Canadian representative to the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) in the area of electrostatic discharge. He led the development of two ESD Association packaging standards, ANSI/EOSESD S11.11 - Surface Resistance Measurement of Static Dissipative Planar Materials and ANSI/ESD S11.31 - Evaluating the Performance of Electrostatic Shielding Materials: Bags.
He also provided the leadership that led to the development of the ANSI/ESD Standard S20.20. This year Gibson and Association president John Kinnear trained the first set of ISO 9000 auditors in the procedures for auditing according to S20.20. The Celestica plant in North York, Ontario where Gibson works, became the first facility to be audited and certified to S20.20.
In addition to his standards role, Gibson was elected to the Association board of directors, serving as vice president, senior vice president, and president. He also has been active with the EOS/ESD Symposium, serving on the technical program committee and teaching in the tutorial program. In 1995 he was the Symposium's co-general chair.
